Develop your picture-making approaches for personal expression and awareness of your role as a photographer. Weekly exercises are meant to challenge your preconceptions of what photographs can be, and how you might better understand your decision-making in their creation, as you work on a personal project. The aim is to identify your limitations, break down some of your barriers, and expose you to new ideas and an appreciation of what the potential of photography can be. Although technique and terminology will be discussed, the more important aspect of image-making is in the thinking and doing. This course is meant for any photographer, from beginner to advanced, who might want to sharpen their skills and explore their personal interests. Some working knowledge of post-processing software is highly recommended, but this is not a photoshop course, nor do we deal with AI. What we explore is the real-world, in-camera making of the image; it is more about seeing, composing, and evaluating the meaningful expression of your images. Your growth as a mindful photographer is the goal, whether you are new to photography, or have been doing this for years and now want to develop a more mature vision.
Any camera is accepted, and weekly reviews of work in progress should guide you and inspire you to develop your vision.
“Sometimes, to pursue a new idea, the artist must forfeit [their] deposit on an old idea.” – Robert Brault
