You’ve already taken my introductory macro class and have some experience getting close to your subject. And now you want more. Again, with this class you will be shooting different subjects weekly. Flowers, insects, food, liquids, etc. I’ll guide you to better understanding and refining the close-up techniques learned in the introductory class. Those techniques will be built upon through instruction and practice. Creating a specific workflow when shooting is one of the keys to being consistent and leads to more successful images. I will also cover lighting, both natural and artificial, and how best to use lighting for different effects. Fully understanding composition is another key element to making better photographs, whether in-camera or in post-production. Be ready to work hard in this class.
Part of taking anything to the next level is having the right equipment. For this class you will need a macro lens, focusing rail, tripod, ring flash or equivalent end-of-lens mounted flash and a regular speedlight flash that can be used off camera. You should probably invest in a focus stacking software as well. (Adobe Photoshop, ON1 Photo Raw 2025, and Affinity Photo 2, all have focus stacking. Unfortunately, Lightroom does not.)
