This course for new or experienced photographers will explore four components of photography. We will investigate 1) basic manual exposure controls, 2) assignments that explore several important genres of photography, 3) a survey of the history of photography as a meaningful form of communication, 4) and the aesthetics of artistic composition. Stretch your legs and your mind as you learn to be comfortable using manual controls with your digital SLR or mirrorless cameras (or cell phones!), with increasing emphasis on aesthetics as the weeks pass. You will venture out to photograph each week, and you will edit and submit a few pictures in class for peer review and critique in the next week’s class. This course is about much more than learning how to use your camera, and you are guaranteed to learn new ideas and approaches, so be prepared to explore your world photographically.
Note: Post-production is not necessary but highly recommended. We will discuss a little of that component as needed, but we do not have time to cover that component adequately in this brief 5-week course.
