Monotype and monoprints are where painting and printmaking cross paths. A Monotype is an individual one-of-a-kind print that can be made with traditional and nontraditional plates (metal, wood, cardboard, or Plexiglas) on which an image or design is drawn with or into ink. The plate is then run through a press and printed on paper. In this class students will learn to construct their own plates using transfer, drawing, and painting techniques, and print and handle the press. Instruction will include mixing inks, hand wiping, painting, additional and subtraction methods as well as over printing in multiple colors. Come learn the various techniques and the rich history of monotype and monoprints that has contributed to the renewed excitement and popularity of making single impression monotypes and prints, while increasing your skills with press, paper, and ink.
Open to all levels, no printmaking experience is required.
All materials will be supplied. A $20 materials fee will be required, Cash or a check made out to the instructor Robert Pillsbury should be provided at the first session.
