Join in on the lively discussion with accomplished painter and printmaker Robert Pillsbury as we learn the various materials and techniques used for this popular artform.

About the Artist: Robert Pillsbury now resides in Wakefield, Rhode Island after a 40 plus year career in the New York metro area involving performance art, video, publishing, printmaking, painting, and art instruction. In his new studio here, he continues to create, focusing on drawing, various forms of printmaking, and encaustic painting. His dedication to “making marks” is seen in the detail throughout each of the mediums in which he works.
Robert’s artwork has been shown and exhibited in galleries and institutions both within the United States and internationally. He has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including in publications such as Fine Art Connoisseur and American Art Collector.
He began his studies at Silvermine College of Art and earned his BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Maryland Institute College of Art. His life in art has always extended beyond the studio to the artistic community as a whole through his active membership and participation in various national and international arts organizations including the historic Salmagundi Club in New York City. At Salmagundi he served on the Board of Directors for more than a decade culminating with 6 years as President. During his years of service there, he located and procured funds to purchase two printing presses and reestablished the Club’s 1880’s in house printmaking activities as a founding member of the Monotype Party Group. One of the most popular events at the Club (and open to the public), the Monotype Party continues to meet monthly for an evening of making monotypes, printing, and fellowship.
Robert has given numerous instructional demonstrations and lectures, and taught classes and workshops both in printmaking and encaustic painting for the past decade. Always excited to share his knowledge and learn from his student’s experiences, he looks forward to expanding his new community at the South County Art Association.
