Light is the photographer’s most essential tool—yet it is often the most misunderstood. In this three week workshop, students will move beyond "proper exposure" to learn how to manipulate and observe the quality of light to evoke emotion, define texture, and tell compelling stories. Whether you shoot portraits, street photography, or still lifes, this workshop will train your eye to find extraordinary images in ordinary, everyday spaces.
Participants will learn how to read and decode the light in any environment. We will cover the practical differences between hard and soft light, how the direction of a light source shapes a subject, and how color temperature impacts the feeling of a photograph. Through a blend of technical theory, critical analysis of iconic imagery, and hands-on shooting exercises, participants will learn to "see" light before they ever press the shutter.
