Personally, I think the most rewarding experience as an artist/painter is being able to see colors in ones environment and be able to imagine and understand how they are obtained by mixing several colors in ones mind. This course will encourage you to do that!

Colors are perceived as having three qualities; hue, intensity and value. Using a limited palette, participants will copy color swatches that I have created. You will find these colors in nature and it will help you with your still life and plein air painting. During the second half of this course we will also be seeing color and will be painting it as a light, medium or dark value of gray. Seeing color as value is what painting is all about!
Students will be taking what they have learned about color and value to paint studies from their own photos.

As with all my classes there will be no pressure having to do things right in this class. Making mistakes is totally acceptable as everyone learns at their own pace. The environment is easy and social. Everyone is welcome!

This course is not intended for someone looking for a quick “drink and paint” type painting nor is it a technique class. It is primarily more of a training method intended for anyone more interested in seeing , mixing and matching colors.
