Soft pastels are a wonderful medium that have been used by artists as early as the 16th century. Because they are pure pigment with little to no binder, the colors are brilliant and require no drying time which allows artists to use them for a preliminary study or a final painting.
This workshop will start with an introduction to the tools needed to make a successful pastel painting including different pastels brands, sanded paper, and techniques used by pastelists. This will be followed by a short demonstration of the medium then on to time to work on your individual piece using a photo supplied by the instructor. The day will end with a friendly critique of the work done and a discussion about your experience using soft pastels.

There is a $7 supply fee payable to Linda O'Connor, and please see materials list for additional supplies needed for the workshop. We have a small amount of pastels available for those in need.
