Where does abstract art come from? The goal of this course is to use your own drawings, that you'll create based on observed subjects, to explore the myriad ways these drawings can be a starting point for abstracted work. We will use a variety of exercises to get you drawing "what you see" in your surroundings, then examine your drawings for their mark-making and compositional qualities to create a series of work that gradually moves toward abstraction. We will use a variety of media including; drawing, painting, and collage, to discover new possibilities for rich compositions.
