This 10 hour class covers the basics for a safe and fun approach to flat plane woodcarving, which is very often associated with Scandinavian folk art. Old school sharpening and honing of rounded tip, two inch long, high carbon steel blades will be explained and practiced. Create one of several forms with individual guidance and helpful tips to make a successful carving. Toward the last session, we explore 'worn look' DIY milk painting and 'toasting' as a finishing option.
Limited carving tools and protective gloves can be loaned by the instructor but it is recommended that you obtain your own. Included with the class is a block of local, clear white pine or cedar. Different wood varieties are available for purchase from the instructor for a $5 supply fee. All interested students are encouraged to contact the instructor before the start of class with questions.
